In fact, I believe they are far more difficult than job interviews.<\/p>\n<p>Federal laws prohibit employers from asking questions like \u2018do you have children and \u2018are you a US citizen\u2019 \u2013 questions that could lead to discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>But, pageants are a wide-open space of all sorts of wild questions. Some pageants do have rules. For example, Miss America doesn\u2019t allow for talents to be performed and Miss International doesn\u2019t allow for political questions, unless brought up by the contestant. To know what the rules are for your pageant, simple ask your director if there are any questions that are off-limits. And you need to be prepared to deal with them. But, that doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019ll always have a slick answer to every question.<\/p>\n<p>Just as in real life people ask all sorts of dumb, offensive, provocative, inappropriate and rude questions when you\u2019re least expecting it \u2013 so, you have to be prepared to react.\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4 style=\"color: #ed295e; font-weight: bold;\">Some examples of these Tough Interview Questions are:<\/h4>\n<p>+ Confusing Politics: \u201cDo you think Congressman So-and-So was wise to make his announcement prior to the election, or should he have waited?\u201d<br \/>+ Personally Offensive: \u201cHave you ever felt insecure about your body weight?\u201d<br \/>+ Leading of Path: \u201cWhat kind of mom do you want to be?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You may have been asked other questions, sometimes they slip out awkwardly and sometimes they are designed to throw you off.<\/p>\n<p>Now, here\u2019s what you need to know: you don\u2019t have to answer the\u00a0question, but you do have to respond.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color: #ed295e; text-align: center;\">You don\u2019t have to answer the\u00a0question, but you do have to respond.<\/h3>\n<p>What I mean is that you don\u2019t have to answer the question directly, but you should provide some reply to at least acknowledge that you\u2019re still in control of the room.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"color: #ed295e; font-weight: bold;\">There are 4 ways I teach my clients to respond:<\/h4>\n<p>#1 \u2013 answer the question directly if you want and you feel comfortable answering<\/p>\n<p>#2 \u2013 answer what they are actually asking instead. If they are asking \u201cDo you have lots of free time?\u201d you may answer, \u201cIf you\u2019re wondering if I have time to be a titleholder, the answer is Yes. I have structured my future to allow for flexibility so that I can easily accomplish the tasks I need to as the titleholder if I\u2019m selected this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>#3 \u2013 \u201cI don\u2019t know about the situation your referencing. If you give me a few more details, I\u2019d be happy to share my opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>#4 \u2013 \u201cI don\u2019t feel comfortable answering that question in this setting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a career counselor, I trained my students the same way, they could answer the question, answer the question behind the question, or choose not to respond.<\/p>\n<p>The choice is yours.
